The University of North Alabama has two libraries: Collier Library, the main library, and Kilby Library, a specialty library located in Kilby Laboratory School. Collier Library offers seating for approximately 650 users across communal, classroom, and group study spaces.

Collections & Resources

Graduate students have access to an extensive range of resources, including:

  • 218,068 physical books
  • 604,297 electronic books
  • 64,296 electronic periodicals
  • 9,922 audiovisual items
  • 122,504 streaming videos
  • A technology lending collection featuring cameras, drones, smart devices, and more
  • A textbook reserve collection
  • Research materials such as maps, photographic prints, and archival items

Research Support & Interlibrary Loan

Collier Library provides robust research support, including:

  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL): Graduate students can request materials not owned by UNA through ILL services.
  • Statewide Borrowing: UNA is a member of the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries (NAAL), granting full reciprocal borrowing rights across the state.

Archives & Special Collections

Collier Library’s Archives & Special Collections preserve materials related to UNA’s history, the Shoals area, and significant local figures. Collections include:

  • University records, photographs, and ephemera
  • Personal research materials of historical and regional significance
  • Over 850 scripts and 2,000 memorabilia items from George Lindsey, Ernest Borgnine, and others
  • More than 600 videos from UNA’s annual film festival

Instruction & Research Support

Collier Library offers a comprehensive instruction program to support graduate-level research and scholarship. Topics include:

  • Advanced research strategies
  • Critical thinking in information use
  • Literature reviews and systematic searching
  • Citation management tools

Librarians provide one-on-one research consultations tailored to graduate students' needs.

Technology & Study Spaces

Collier Library provides access to over 140 computers, including desktops and loanable laptops. Additional technology and services include:

  • 3D printing and media editing software
  • Poster printing and scanning stations
  • Presentation screens and digital tools for collaborative work
  • Quiet study areas and group study rooms

Library Website & Online Access

Graduate students can access the library’s online catalog, databases, and electronic resources through the website: www.una.edu/library. Remote access allows for seamless research from off-campus locations.
