The Delores and Weldon Cole Honors College currently has six options by which a student may complete Honors College requirements (see attached 2021-2022 catalog description). After reviewing requirements at peer institutions and select non-peer institutions and evaluating the merits of multiple pathways against a single option, the following proposal would consolidate the six options into a single, flexible option requiring 18 hours in order to achieve the following goals:

Align Honors College requirements with UAB and the University of Alabama, which currently require 18 honors hours for completion

Simplify understanding of Honors requirements for new and existing students

Adapt to the accelerating trend in dual enrollment/three-year degrees

Accommodate students leaving after three years for professional programs

Increase the graduation rate from the Honors College

Streamline administrative labor in monitoring completion of requirements
