Our current graduate faculty application process includes a required approval from Graduate Council. However, since GC does not meet during the summer, and at times it is necessary to hire new faculty during the summer, this proposal is for an alternate approval step for Graduate Faculty applications received in the summer.

The alternate approval step would be a majority approval among the four college Associate Deans with the current Graduate Advisory Council Chair (Dr. Zayac for 2022-2023) serving as the Chair. During the summer months only, the CourseLeaf Graduate Faculty application would be routed to the Associate Deans in lieu of the GC. Dr. Zayac would facilitate an e-vote and approvals will then be routed to Jessica Pattison and Candace Arnold for final processing.

All graduate faculty applications approved during this alternate review process will be presented to Graduate Council for review at their first meeting the following semester.

The proposed change would also facilitate the removal of the current one-year temporary approval provided to new faculty. The current process of providing temporary status was put in place to account for summer/late approval requests. The proposed process will allow for the vetting of applications by qualified faculty and increase efficiency.
Ryan Zayac (rzayac) (Mon, 16 May 2022 18:26:41 GMT): Updated to include that the current chair of the Graduate Advisory Council will serve in the role of chair of the review committee.
Renee Vandiver (rpvandiver) (Mon, 23 May 2022 19:47:56 GMT): Approved by COAD on 5-23-22.
