Back in March, an update was made to the Second Chance Provision policy. The two items that changed were:

Minimum credit hours to be completed dropped from 24 to 15
Verbiage added that this policy only applies to courses taken at UNA

The reasonings for these changes were:
1. To clarify that this policy is not applicable to transfer course(s).
2. If we used it for transfer courses, we may be removing coursework that was used
towards a prior degree.
3. Removing transfer work after admission may alter a prior academic standing, which
should not be modified.
4. Removing transfer work after admission could have financial aid and/or scholarship
implications.
5. Grades for transfer courses do not affect graduation.

However, verbiage from the original policy indicates this could apply to transfer courses by references in the following:

Any undergraduate student who has been readmitted to the University after an absence of three or more years from higher education can earn second chance status, which provides an opportunity to eliminate from computation of the grade point average any grades of D, F, or WF received "before admission" or readmission to UNA.

To earn second chance status, the student must achieve a grade point average of at least 2.0 during the first 15 credit hours of completed course work at UNA "following admission" or readmission.

Students meeting these standards must file a formal application in the Office of the Registrar to eliminate from computation in the grade point average any grades of D, F, or WF received "before admission" or readmission.

Any student "admitted" or readmitted to the University after an absence of three years or more will be informed of the Second Chance Provision in the letter of admission.

This is to propose an addendum to this policy update to remove the references to "admitted", “before admission” and “following admission” which could be inferred to apply to transfer courses.
