Accelerated Master's Program between Psychology (BA/BS) and Family and Community Services (MS)

Accelerated Master's Program

The Department of Psychology and Sociology participates in UNA's Accelerated Master’s Program (AMP). The AMP permits qualified undergraduate students the opportunity to take up to 9 hours of graduate-level coursework in the Family and Community Services master’s program that would count as elective PY courses and graduate credit. In order to be eligible for the AMP, students must meet the following criteria: (a) be a Psychology major, (b) completed 90 or more hours toward their undergraduate degree, (c) have an overall GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) at time of entry into the AMP, (d) have earned an A or B on all coursework in the Psychology major, and (e) receive a simple majority approval vote from Psychology faculty having classroom (or similar) experience which permits an evaluation of academic potential. Final approval will be granted via the coordinator of the Family and Community Services graduate program.

Following acceptance into the AMP program, beginning in the summer of their senior year (minimum of 90 completed credit hours), participants will be eligible to take up to 9 credit hours of any of the following courses for both undergraduate and graduate credit:

Family Diversity and Social Change (FS 510)

Family Life Education (FS 501)

Social Psychology of Intimate Relationships (FS 543)

Students must earn a B in graduate-level coursework to earn graduate credit and continue in the AMP program. Grades of a C or lower will still count towards the undergraduate psychology degree requirements. Acceptance into the AMP program does not guarantee admission into the Family and Community Services graduate degree program. AMP participants will still be required to apply and satisfy all admission criteria required of other applicants to the Family and Community Services degree program.
