OHS 510. Ergonomics, Human Factors, and Workplace Design. (3 Credits)

This course studies the role and application of ergonomics in a comprehensive occupational health and safety program. (Spring)

OHS 530. Process Safety. (3 Credits)

Process Safety is explored with applications to hazard recognition, hazard analysis, and control. Emphasis is placed on system safety analysis techniques such as failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA), hazard and operability analysis (HAZOP), and fault tree analysis (FTA). (Spring)

OHS 565. Environmental Management. (3 Credits)

An overview of topics related to environmental protection and pollution prevention, hazardous waste management, sustainability principles, and environmental management system standards. (Summer)

OHS 590. Management of Occupational Health and Safety Programs. (3 Credits)

This course presents the principles of managing occupational safety and health, including: assessing safety performance; exploration of corporate culture; leadership, negotiation and communication skills; legal aspects; ethical consideration; and best practices. (Spring)

OHS 600. Fundamentals of Occupational Health. (3 Credits)

A general review of occupational health (industrial hygiene) principles including anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control. Physical and chemical hazards arising in or from the workplace are explored. (Fall)

OHS 610. Regulatory Aspects of Occupational Safety and Health. (3 Credits)

Comprehensive review of regulations related to occupational health and safety. (Fall)

OHS 615. Risk Assessment and Loss Control. (3 Credits)

An advanced study of the risk management process including hazard identification, risk analysis, and risk evaluation (decision making). This course will also cover general financial principles (cost-benefit analysis, return on investment) and loss control management concepts including insurance/risk transfer principles. Prerequisite: OHS 610. (Fall)

OHS 620. Fire Prevention and Emergency Preparedness. (3 Credits)

An advanced study of fire science including fire prevention, protection, and suppression systems. This course will also cover emergency preparedness and response as it relates to fires, chemical spills, natural disasters, and acts of violence. (Summer)

OHS 625. Program Administration and Training. (3 Credits)

The principles of managing the occupational safety and health function including how to organize, develop and administer comprehensive and sustainable safety and health programs. This course also covers how to develop and conduct training programs using adult learning theory and behavior change methods. Prerequisite: OHS 610. (Spring)

OHS 695. Current Literature and Research Methods in Occupational Health and Safety. (3 Credits)

This course applies critical thinking and research methods to the field of occupational safety. Prerequisite: Graduate Coordinator Approval. (Fall, Spring)
