This course will emphasize systems that influence client functioning and occupations. Developmental, social, and environmental factors that may influence occupational performance across the lifespan will be explored. (Fall)

OT 502. Advanced Clinical Pathophysiology for OT. (3 Credits)
This course provides the OT student with a study of the human physiological system, both normal physiological function and pathophysiology of systems of human body systems, which commonly require occupational therapy intervention. The course will emphasize etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and courses of disease by organ system. (Fall)

OT 503. Advanced Human Anatomy and Kinesiology (with Lab). (4 Credits)
This course is designed to focus on human anatomy with an emphasis on body system structures, including musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems, across a lifespan to enhance the understanding of conditions that will likely be encountered in Occupational Therapy. Three credit hour didactic course with 1 credit hour lab. (Fall)

OT 504. Neuroanatomy. (3 Credits)
This course establishes a theoretical explanation of occupational human functioning through neuroscience. A detailed evaluation of neuroanatomy and disorders of the human nervous system will be discussed, focusing on motor, cognitive, and sensory development. (Spring)

OT 505. OT for Neurological Conditions (with Lab). (4 Credits)
This course will assess the understanding of the occupational therapy process in the assessing and evaluating clients diagnosed with neurological conditions. The etiology, presentation, prognosis, and medical treatment recommendations will be explored in determining the impact of the neurological condition on performance across the lifespan. (Spring)

OT 506. Medical Documentation and Informatics. (3 Credits)
This course provides a survey of the current use of information technology in the clinical and management practice for healthcare delivery. Students will become familiar with the basic terminology, strategies, and utilization of informatics as a key component in the delivery and documentation of patient care. (Spring)

OT 507. Principles of Practice: Early Life (with Lab). (4 Credits)
This course explores common pediatric diagnoses seen by occupational therapists, the evaluation, intervention planning, implementation, and intervention strategies in children, birth through adolescence. Content will focus on occupational performance and related issues concerning adaptation and life satisfaction. (Spring)

OT 508. Fieldwork Experience IA. (1 Credit)
This course provides opportunities to apply didactic courses through direct observation and participation in selected fieldwork experiences. Concepts highlighted will include occupational barriers and OT skills necessary when working with pediatric clients. Students will complete related fieldwork assignments to promote clinical judgement and application of occupational therapy concepts. (Spring)

This course will explore the principles of outcome measurement theories, assessment, examiner responsibility, and the application of these concepts to evidence-based clinical practice and program management. The analysis of outcome measures using statistical procedures, data analysis, and program evaluation will be implemented. (Summer)

This course focuses on the knowledge and skills required to assess and treat clients with mental health conditions. The etiology, presentation, prognosis, medical treatment, and psychiatric treatment approaches will be explored in determining the impact of the mental health condition on occupational performance throughout the lifespan. OT 511. Assistive Technology (with lab). (2 Credits)
This course provides a detailed study of assistive technology, including manual and powered mobility, standers, gait trainers, orthotics, and technologies that aid in manipulating objects to adapt, modify, or create an environment that will enhance and optimize clients’ abilities. Assessment and documentation of architectural barriers will also be addressed. (Summer)

This course builds an understanding of medical management and the provision of occupational therapy services and physical agent modalities for orthopedic conditions. Students will be able to analyze the relationship among occupational therapy processes, procedures, and intervention strategies. (Fall)

This course reviews healthcare system delivery trends and community practice implications. An appreciation for diverse cultural and social systems is emphasized. Evaluation of community needs, alternative settings, practice expansion, and consultation skills are discussed. (Fall)

This course explores common diagnoses, intervention planning, implementation, and intervention strategies in older adults. Content will focus on occupational performance and related issues concerning adaptation, life satisfaction, and the effects of maturing and aging on occupational performance and preference. (Fall)

This class focuses on management and leadership in occupational therapy across practice settings. It gives students the tools to lead OT programs and people, emphasizing important leadership concepts, including decision-making, conflict resolution, negotiation, and relational communication. (Fall)

This course allows the OT student to collect evidence from published research reports to develop intervention plans remediating occupation performance deficits. Students will incorporate critical thinking, clinical judgment, ethical and practical issues, and sound evidence in the planning process. (Spring)

This course is designed to develop entry-level skills for occupational therapy. Students will apply practical skills and clinical reasoning to a diverse client population within various clinical settings. Psychosocial and physical concepts affecting clients will be explored. Students must complete a full-time 12-week fieldwork experience under the supervision of a certified occupational therapist.
