SS 201. Introduction to Southern Studies. (3 Credits)

This course explores those elements that distinguish the American South, including its history, literature, culture, and politics, paying particular attention to how they have helped shape the region. Students will investigate varying models for critically studying the American South. (Fall)

SS 490. Special Topics in Southern Studies. (3 Credits)

A study of a Southern Studies topic from a specific disciplinary focus. Prerequisites: SS 201. (Offered upon sufficient demand)

SS 499. Southern Studies Capstone. (3 Credits)

The capstone course is required of all Southern Studies minors. The course will assess students’ learning in the field of Southern Studies through the creation of an advanced research project. Prerequisites: SS 201. (Spring)
