This course introduces the professional field and profession of instructional technology. It provides a sense of history, an explanation of how general systems theory, human performance technology and instructional design are intertwined with emphasis on the evolution of the major themes and movements in the field while exploring possible career paths and technology tools. This course dives into the cutting-edge world of digital technologies, from the rise of fake news to Artificial Intelligence (AI), empowering students to not only access but also create, share and collaborate on innovative digital works. As the next generation of creators, publishers, distributors and critics, students will explore the ethical and responsible use of these technologies. They will develop the critical thinking skills to navigate the fast-paced, ever-changing digital landscape. This course provides a foundational overview of instructional and human performance technology, focusing on the evolution and impact of learning technologies in workplace environments. Students will explore key concepts and principles of Human Performance Technology (HPT) and Instructional Design, analyzing their practical applications for solving real-world performance issues. Through critical evaluation of instructional design approaches and tools, students will gain insight into designing effective learning experiences that enhance human performance. ITD 302. Instructional Design Principles. (3 Credits)
This course identifies the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate) as the basis for all instructional design frameworks. Students will explore learning objective frameworks and the concept of alignment and how critical elements work together to determine learner success in training interventions. ITD 312W. Performance Analysis. (3 Credits)
Students will collect, analyze, and draw conclusions from the needs’ assessment process by developing data collection instruments, analyzing data, and presenting the results in a clear, well written, and visually appealing way. Prerequisites: ITD 301, ITD 302. (Offered upon sufficient demand)

ITD 322. Foundations of UX/UI & Quality Assurance. (3 Credits)
This course explores foundational concepts of good design: human-computer interaction, usability, user experience, and user research. Emphasis will be placed on continuous improvement and best practices/ characteristics of high-quality training designs.

ITD 332. Learning Theories & Strategies. (3 Credits)
This course will explore learning theories of behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, humanism, and connectivism and address the differences between pedagogy and andragogy. Students will explore the unique learner characteristics and explore instructional strategies for these characteristics. (Offered upon sufficient demand)

This course will assist students in developing a system thinking approach to problem-solving by using case studies, analytic skills, to identify and understand interrelated systems, predict behaviors, devise modifications to these behaviors through change management for sustainable solutions that produce desired effects (Offered upon sufficient demand)

ITD 495. Capstone Internship/Project. (3 Credits)
This is the first of two culminating courses in the BSITD program, offering you the chance to apply and integrate the knowledge and skills gained throughout your coursework. In this course, you will tackle a real-world technology-related issue, problem or opportunity and design pedagogically sound solutions. You'll work closely with industry professionals, gaining valuable field experience under the guidance and supervision of the instructor or department chair. This internship provides the opportunity to develop your problem-solving and project management skills in a professional setting. Prerequisites: Department and Advisor Approval, Taken in the final semester of the program. (Offered upon sufficient demand)

ITD 497. ITD Capstone Portfolio. (3 Credits)
This is the second of two culminating courses in the BSITD program. You will create an electronic portfolio that showcases the depth of your learning and professional growth. This portfolio highlights the knowledge, skills and competencies you've developed throughout the program, while also encouraging reflection on your journey as a practitioner. By integrating and synthesizing key concepts, you will demonstrate your ability to apply what you've learned to real-world challenges. In addition to serving as a reflection of your academic journey, your portfolio will become a powerful tool for marketing your skills to potential employers, giving you a competitive edge in the job market. This course provides a valuable opportunity to present your educational achievements and personal development as a reflective practitioner.
